Here we go again with my daily blog to let you know what i have been up to.
The day started early thanks to my body still thinking it was in the UK. After lying in bed dozing for about 90 minutes my rumbling stomach told me it was time to get up and find breakfast. Off i went to the local supermarket where i bought that good old British favorite, Corn Flakes. One bowl (big) later and after making a few sandwiches & nibbles i was ready to go.
A nice 20 minute stroll got me to the stadium. This was just after 10 and as i didn't really fancy any of the earlier matches i decided to go check out the VIP Lounge & Patio. On my way i had to pass inside the main stadium so i went and had a quick look at my seat, nice. It is smack bang in the middle of the court opposite the players & 3 rows from the back of lower tier, bloody fantastic view. Off i then went to the Patio by the practice court via the Lounge. When i got there Youzhny & Almagro where on court so watched them for a while. Next out was Gasquet then next minute there were 14 players on court. There are 4 courts and 3 of them had 4 players on. Didn't really know many of them but later realised that i saw Leo Mayer & Carlos Salamanca.
Then came Rafa, all i can say is OMG, gorgeous!
Just as he was coming to the end of his practice Roger & Mirka made an appearance. Unfortunately i was witness to a Roger shirtchange! Novak made a brief appearance but went straight through the practice courts onto #2 Court where Rafa has moments earlier gone. I followed and there they were practicing together. I stayed to watch and missed Paul-Henri Matheiu play his match. I then decided it was time to actually watch some tennis so i moved to Court #1 and caught Chiudinelli v Salamanca from the 4th game. Had never heard of Salamanca and my trusty friend back home hasn't either. Well whoever he is i was impressed, he came from a set down to win 4-6 6-1 6-4 playing some nice stuff. Chiudinelli was whinging at the end complaining that the ball was too soft, but tough.
Next up was Andrey Golubev who i was really looking forward to watching after his exploits in Hamburg. Unfortunately that Andrey never showed up and he lost 7-6 6-3.
I then had one final look around the practice courts. Murray was on Court
#3 but there were too many people stood courtside so i couldn't really see. Had a look in the shops then back to the main practice courts where i again saw Youzhny and Hanescu. Decided that was enough for one day and left at 17.25.
All in all a pretty decent first day. Lots of people around as the entry was free, lots going on for children and all areas were open to the public. Oh, and i got sunburnt.
