Arrived late today as i forgot my suncream, not that i needed it. Shitty weather for the early part of the day. I really don't know what it is with me, tennis and rain. Whenever i have gone to an outdoor tournament i have had rain.
Anyway the rain eventually stopped and the courts were dry. I started off on Court 1 and watched Istomin v Devvarman. Pretty even match (what i saw) but from my seat i could see the practice court and i spotting a familiar looking rear end, Rafa was on court. Off i went to the practice court where i managed to get a seat . Rafa was practicing with Gasquet and was looking rather nice. Almagro came out and also a few others who i have no idea who they were After around 20 minutes once again the heavens opened. Rafa hung about a bit in their courtside shelter but when it was clear that it wasn't going to stop anytime soon he left.
I wondering around for a while, went and looked again at the merchandise stands and to the restaurant. Again the weather cleared and off i went to Court #1. Play resumed with Devvarman at set point in the first set. I stayed for a few games of the second set then moved to Grandstand as they had moved Nieminen v Mathieu to there. Got a seat right at the back overlooking Court 2 so not only had a great view of the match but also of some players practicing there. Davydenko and Kohlschreiber came out first and i have a great video of them playing football. After them came Wawrinka and Tipsarevic then Lopez.
Good match between Jarkko & Paul Henri but for me Paul blew it. Up 2 breaks in the 3rd and he loses 3-6, 6-4 5-7. He got a code violation for whacking a ball out of court after losing a point then after he lost that game he smached his racquet but no 2nd warning. By this time his head was gone and he lost. More smashing of racquets was to follow the match. He smached the racquet he was using then for good measure took another from his bag and smashed that too. He then picked up his bag, stepped over the racquets and walked off court.
I made my back to the practice court and there was Rafa again, this time with Robredo. I went to the Patio area as it was quieter there. 2 hours later Rafa finally decides that he has had enough (thank God, my feet were killing me) Mass scrum for an autograph but i have sharp elbows and i got him to sign my favorite photo that i have taken of him (overhead smash @ Monte Carlo 2009) No one else was on court so i called it a day.
